About Form 1099-MISC — Miscellaneous Information
Form 1099-MISC is used to report miscellaneous income payments that do not fall under nonemployee compensation. Common uses include reporting rent paid to landlords of $600 or more, royalty payments of $10 or more, prizes and awards, crop insurance proceeds, fishing boat proceeds, and payments to attorneys. Since 2020, nonemployee compensation is reported separately on Form 1099-NEC. Payers must furnish 1099-MISC to recipients by January 31 and file with the IRS by February 28 (paper) or March 31 (electronic).
