About Form W-3 β Transmittal of Wage and Tax Statements
Form W-3 (Transmittal of Wage and Tax Statements) is submitted to the Social Security Administration (SSA) by employers along with all Copy A versions of W-2 forms. It is a summary document that totals all wages paid and taxes withheld across all employees for the calendar year. W-3 and W-2 Copy A forms must be filed with the SSA by January 31 (if filing electronically) or February 28 (paper). Employers filing 10 or more W-2s must file electronically using the SSA's Business Services Online (BSO) portal. The W-3 must exactly match the totals of all accompanying W-2s. A separate W-3 is filed for each type of payer or employment.
